Hidradenitis suppurativa disease course during pregnancy and postpartum: a retrospective survey study

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) affects predominantly women of reproductive age and frequently flares during the perimenstrual period, indicating a hormonal influence. Studies on the effect of pregnancy on HS disease severity have reported improvement, no change and worsening during pregnancy. We aimed to assess changes in HS disease course during pregnancy and postpartum and identify potential predictors of HS pregnancy outcomes. Continue reading

Second intravenous immunoglobulin dose in patients with Guillain-Barré syndrome with poor prognosis (SID-GBS): a double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled trial

BACKGROUND: Treatment with one standard dose (2 g/kg) of intravenous immunoglobulin is insufficient in a proportion of patients with severe Guillain-Barré syndrome. Worldwide, around 25% of patients severely affected with the syndrome are given a second intravenous immunoglobulin dose (SID), although it has not been proven effective. We aimed to investigate whether a SID is effective in patients with Guillain-Barré syndrome with a predicted poor outcome. Continue reading

European Surveillance System on Contact Allergies (ESSCA)†: Characteristics of patients patch tested and diagnosed with irritant contact dermatitis

CONCLUSIONS: The hands were mainly involved in OICD also in the subgroup of contact dermatitis patients, in whom relevant contact sensitization had been ruled out, emphasizing the need for limiting irritant exposures. However, in difficult to treat contact dermatitis, unrecognized contact allergy, or unrecognized clinical relevance of identified allergies owing to incomplete or wrong product ingredient information must always be considered. This article is protected by copyright. All rights… Continue reading

Generation and Differentiation of Adult Tissue-Derived Human Thyroid Organoids

Total thyroidectomy as part of thyroid cancer treatment results in hypothyroidism requiring lifelong daily thyroid hormone replacement. Unbalanced hormone levels result in persistent complaints such as fatigue, constipation, and weight increase. Therefore, we aimed to investigate a patient-derived thyroid organoid model with the potential to regenerate the thyroid gland. Murine and human thyroid-derived cells were cultured as organoids capable of self-renewal and which expressed proliferation… Continue reading

Incidence of Mycosis fungoides and Sezary syndrome in the Netherlands between 2000 and 2020

Cutaneous T-cell lymphomas (CTCL) are a heterogeneous group of non-Hodgkin lymphomas that differ greatly in clinical presentation and prognosis. Mycosis fungoides (MF) is the most frequent subtype of cutaneous lymphomas. Sezary syndrome (SS), characterized by the triad of erythroderma, lymphadenopathy and blood involvement, is less prevalent, and has a much more unfavorable prognosis. Continue reading

Supportive care in the acute phase of Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis: an international, multidisciplinary DELPHI-based consensus

CONCLUSIONS: We have reached an international Delphi-based consensus on best supportive care practice for SJS/TEN. Our expert consensus should help guide physicians in treating patients with SJS/TEN and thereby improve short-term prognosis and the risk of sequelae. Continue reading
